Theme of The Great Indoors 2009 is 'Changing Ideals'
In the first edition of The Great Indoors the notion of interior as the last utopia determined the choice of speakers for the conference and the briefing of the members of the jury.
This time the organization is fully aware of the effects that the present 'credit crunch' has on the functioning of many design agencies. For now it remains unclear what effects the crisis will have on the entire field of interior design; from interior designers to furniture manufacturers, from project developers to architects and media such as magazines.
Despite the fact that many of the projects that will be submissioned for The Great Indoors 2009 have already been designed and achieved ahead of the crisis, it is inevitable that the jury will take the current situation as a point of view in the adjudication.
From this perspective the organization has chosen to hand both the submitters and the members of the jury the theme: ‘Changing Ideals’, the title of an exhibition in NAiM/Bureau Europa.
This exhibition states that architecture, including interior, is continuously interacting with newly developed products; ‘container’ and ‘contained’ influence each other reciprocally.
Without wanting to use the exhibition as a guide, the notion of changing ideals, of a reality that will enfold to the current circumstances, is of such importance to the initiators of The Great Indoors that we like to theme this edition ‘Changing Ideals’.
